Fred Hampton was a prominent Black activist and chairman of the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party (BPP). Born on August 30, 1948, in Chicago, he quickly became a powerful voice for civil rights and social justice, advocating for Black empowerment, self-defense, and revolutionary change. Hampton was known for his efforts to unite diverse communities, organizing free breakfast programs, medical clinics, and educational initiatives for poor, marginalized groups. His leadership and charisma made him a target of the FBI's COINTELPRO program, which sought to undermine Black activists. On December 4, 1969, at the age of 21, Hampton was assassinated during a raid by Chicago police, with the support of the FBI. His death became a symbol of the government's violent repression of Black resistance movements, and Hampton is remembered as a martyr for justice and equality. GET YOU SOME CRANES!
